My wife and I attended a game at Dodger Stadium in Los Angeles last Saturday. I’ve attended a handful of games over the years, it’s an incredible venue: almost consistently great weather, palm trees in the outfield, beautiful views of downtown.
It’s moments like this that I find myself checking out Wikipedia and started to learn about the sordid history of building the stadium in Chavez Ravine.
[To be honest, this is one of many examples of eminent domain used to claim land from a poor, underserved community, but that’s a completely different discussion.]
More interesting: an elementary school was buried rather than demolished when building the stadium and is located under the parking lot northwest of third base.
It’ll be a fascinating archaeological dig at whatever point the stadium is replaced, though I don’t expect that to be in my lifetime.
