Meandering Thoughts #12

Today I am in Poznań, Poland, my first visit to this former Communist nation.

I saw a lot of young adults and teens as I walked around, and wondered if they can really comprehend how different it was for their parents or grandparents who lived in Poland (or any East Block country) before the Iron Curtain fell.

What’s the Communist equivalent to The Four Yorkshiremen sketch? That you couldn’t use zloty in the best shops? That one would wait in line without even knowing what the line was for? That you sang Communism propaganda songs while marching to schools? That telephones weren’t ubiquitous and you could wait for decades to get one installed?

I knew of Ostalgia, looks like Poland has something similar but without that catchy name.
