Davina and the Dakota

My wife and I spent our Friday night at The Dakota to the excellent music of Davina and the Vagabonds.

Davina cut her chops at the Dakota before becoming known nationally and internationally, so these (increasingly-infrequent) shows are much more informal, with self-deprecating humor and inside jokes, and – of course – great music. I thoroughly enjoy good musicianship and she and her band bring it in spades. Tonight’s show was a single, two-hour set.

[My current favorite song is Devil Horns, though version of I’d Rather Go Blind is required listening.]

When ever possible, a Dakota show also means enjoying their fine food: I highly recommend the shrimp and grits, absolutely delicious! Though the menu changes, I’ve rarely run into anything I haven’t loved.

What a way to start the weekend!
