My daughter is teaching her sons/my grandsons how to tell time on an analog clock after realizing they had no idea what the hands on a clock meant. I’m not even convinced they understood there are other forms of clocks.
I was reminded of an alarm clock I got as a present when I was five or six years old. The flywheel and gears fascinated me, and to this day I love manual, windup, ticking clocks. Of course, I overwound it almost immediately and it never ticked again. Very disappointed, I would shake it to try and start the flywheel but nada.
I purchased one from eBay for them, and while interested in the visible works they more enjoyed the bell alarm. They pretended to sleep and then alarm would ring and they would “wake up.”
The clock is 50 years old and I don’t expect it to keep time or even continue working, but it’s fun for now.
