January 1993. London, England, interviewing for jobs. Original plan for my wife and I to move together, but by this time we were separated but I still had dreams of working overseas. This evening I had already thrown my wedding ring into the Thames from Tower Bridge and now was walking to dinner: where, I’m not sure, thought it was King’s Road but seems too far of a walk.
With my trusty Olympus-OM2 always carried, I turned around and thought this might be an interesting shot. I’m not a great technical photographer, relying on quantity and luck, and here I got lucky: 50mm 1.62, probably ASA-400, 1/60 sec exposure. Fast enough for me to stay steady but slow enough to get the motion of the headlights.
A success trip: I got a job offer, received my work permit, and moved to Sutton, Surrey in late spring. Unfortunately, the job ended up not being what I thought I had been hired for, and after two months I packed up and headed back to Minnesota. Oh well, another story for another time….
