Meandering Thoughts #21

Who is responsible for creating the WNBA schedules?

As a University of Iowa alum and long-time women’s basketball fan, I am curious where the Indiana Fever (and, by extension, Caitlin Clark) are playing.

Observations:

  • three road trips in their first five games;
  • they play Connecticut and New York twice each, once home and once away.

In fact, their first multi-game home stand doesn’t occur until the end of May,

A regular discussion among players and fans is the league’s travel, which require, almost exclusively, commercial travel despite the inherent delays and cancellations. The issue could have ameliorated the problem by scheduling the two away games next to each other: play in Connecticut one night, bus to New York, play New York, and return home.

Obviously I’m unaware of all the other logistical problems that goes into creating a schedule, but at face value it seems like steps could have been taken to reduce the impact on the players.
