Meandering Thoughts #22

For anyone familiar with Dune books or seen the recent movies, a constant theme is the aridness of Arrakis and the importance of water for survival.

A scene in Dune Part Two has Stilgar wiping away Jessica‘s tears and then licking his fingers, her moisture either as a gift or a waste. In another scene, Jessica is going to vomit and he implores her to hold it in; when she ultimately vomits, he appears to rue the lost moisture.

How does this impact more intimate activities. Is making love and exchanging bodily fluids more personal or less personal because it may be the difference between life and death? Is it appropriate to share your stillsuit‘s water, which includes both sweat and urine? Would that be a sign of affection?

Inquiring minds want to know!
