My employer recently opened an near-shore office in San Jose, Costa Rica, rapidly growing and not approaching 200 hires. Some had doubts about how well near-shoring works, but to date it’s been nothing but successful: they’re friendly and well-educated, speak English very well, and are learning the ropes and becoming productive more quickly than expected. Despite how quickly the office has grown, there have been very few hiccups. So far, a great success.
At our daily standup one said he was reviewing the Spanish translations for our front-end. Not surprising, everything start in English and is subsequently translated into our supported languages.
However, I look forward to the day a a US-based engineer states that she’s reviewing the English translations. That will be the benchmark that indicates Costa Rica has been seamlessly integrated into our organization!
