The talk before the WNBA draft was that Caitlin would not have to carry the scoring load that she did at Iowa, that she would be surrounded by superior talent and superior scorers and that her ball handling and ability to see the floor would do wonders for the Indiana Fever.
Last night, Caitlin scored 30 points in the Fever’s 2-point victory over the Mystics, completing better than 50% of her shots and 3-point attempts, and 7-8 in free throws. Anything less and the Fever lose.
She’s led the Fever in assists all twelve games, high scorer in six, and even top rebounder once. And while she’s had plenty of growing pains as a rookie – turnovers, in particular, have been problematic – perhaps it’s not a stretch to say that the Fever will only go as far as Caitlin takes them.
If that’s the case, doubtful that they make the playoffs.
