Neighborhood Turkeys

Last fall wild turkey moved into our neighborhood with no indication that they ever intend to leave. They wander the neighborhood, I assume to forage for food, moving from street-to-street, yard-to-yard as they see fit. Multiple flocks, I believe, but I don’t have any expertise to help determine.

They survived the winter, perhaps not surprisingly since it was extremely mild, and kept up their presence: I expected St. Paul’s animal control to corral them and locate them somewhere more rural. Late spring saw chicks added to the population, following their parents around the neighborhood. No idea where the mothers found safe haven to lay and incubate eggs, but obviously there’s a breeding den somewhere.

The picture above shows the turkeys on top of our neighbor’s alley wall, lording over us that they are here for keeps, whether we like it or not!
