I can’t you how many times I’ve seen this: your check arrives with suggested tips – for your convenience, of course!

The recommended tip is based on a percentage of the pre-taxed total, which is correct. I hand the server my credit card and she comes back with the final check.

Notice the recommended tip is now higher, based on the total including tax. WTF?!? Is the restaurant assuming that I won’t notice or not do the math to calculate on a different percentage?
Whatever the reason, it definitely irks me and tends to affect the final tip negatively. Yes, I know that impacts the employee and not the restaurant, it’s the restaurant who choose the software used and configured it as such. Another stupid tipping expectation.
