On left, elevator buttons in my hotel in Kaunus; on right, Vilnius. See any difference?
Universally – until my visit to Kaunus – ground floors are Floor 0 in Europe and Floor 1 in the United States. I can’t explain the differences. Kaunus was Lithuanian and Vilnius Polish between WWI and WWII, so perhaps Lithuania decided that ground floor was Floor 1; however, wouldn’t have Vilnius have accepted that as well?
Will remain a mystery as I not even sure where to research the differences.
