The Kulturpalast Dresden is a DDR-era multi-purpose hall built in the Altmarkt Square in Dresden, Germany, the largest in the city when opened in 1969.
Unfortunately, I know nothing about the actual building, as I didn’t attend an event, enter the building, or even look in the windows. The mural Der Weg der Roten Fahne (in English “The Way of the Red Flag”) on the building’s exterior is an interesting work of social realism. The mural depicts a procession of workers, led by a red flag, marching towards a bright future. Yawn.
Regardless, the mural is very prominent, very large (30m) and very striking, definitely worth a second look and a picture. Despite the historical context, the mural remained in situ during the multiple renovations since German reunification. The Kulturpalast is one of the few (only?) examples of modernist architecture in central Dresden, as many of the historical buildings were rebuilt after World War II.
