For April Fools’ Day, my first grade teacher at PS 20 Brooklyn, Mrs. Fox, to prank our mothers by saying There’s a hole in your panty hose. April Fools! Being new to the whole April Fools’ concept, her suggestion sounded like a home run.
When my mother met me after school, I gave the setup line There’s a hole in your panty hose to which she responded I’m sure there are. Though likely true, that was my introduction to a meaningless “holiday” on the calendar.
