Hurtigruten‘s northbound Coastal Express stops at Molde, Norway late during the second night of the cruise from Bergen. The stop is fairly short – thirty minutes – with no excursions or other events other than picking up or dropping off passengers and dropping off laundry. Fairly uneventful.
Though my wife had already gone to bed, I was still awake and decided to explore the fairly quiet public. As the ship approached Molde, I went to the outside walking deck to watch us dock. The reflection of the city’s lights off the fairly smooth water provided enough brightness to get the shot, including the other passenger who joined me.
The quiet, peaceful scene was interrupted just seconds later as the bright spotlights of the dock were turned on so the ship’s crew could dock safely. I did go to the front of the ship to observe the docking and undocking procedures, but that was anti-climatic after enjoying the almost-solitude of a ship in blackness.
