Missing Baggage

Even for short trips with small bags, I prefer checking my bag because 1) I’m lazy and don’t want to drag it around the airport until boarding and 2) I abhor those who bring multiple, overly-large bags for carry-on. I may be rethinking both points.

Our suitcases have not arrived with us on two successive flights to Oslo. First, my wife’s suitcase missed the flight from Schiphol. This week I arrived in Oslo for a conference, only to discover my bag was still on the ground in Minneapolis.

My missing bag irks me more. I flew Icelandair via Keflavik. Icelandair has one daily flight from MSP so logistically fairly simply: accept bag, get bag on plane. In fact, we left 90 minutes late because all the bags hadn’t been loaded. And yet, on arrival in Oslo, my air tag showed it still in Minnesota.

This isn’t the first time we’ve experienced missing bags. However, the upward trend confirms a change in our travel planning: upon arrival, stay local for at least a day or two in case your bags need to catch up with you. Perhaps expensive, but less so than buying a complete wardrobe!
