Though I’ve been damn close in Iceland, I have not breached the Arctic Circle until my wife and I took Hurtigruten‘s northbound Coastal Express from Bergen to Kirkenes, Norway. Because Hurtigruten caters to tourism, they announce it and all the travel geeks go outside to take their selfie. Someone thought it necessary to install a marker at 66°33’50.4 North so everyone knows exactly the point you’ve truly entered the Artic.
Hurtigruten even provides a certificate that commemorates the achievement, as if you’d forget, though I had to get a reprint as my middle name is too long and my last name was completely cut off. But hey, I’ve been to the Arctic!
