My grandfather was an intelligent man, always looking for something to keep himself engaged in the world, to keep his brain nimble. While living in his retirement community, he told me he established the recycling program and pushed for in-room internet access (which I believed required a new phone system). Regardless, he was always doing something.
The running joke in the family was his Spanish classes: it seemed he was always taking Spanish I again and again. His Northwestern report card indicates that, perhaps, languages were never to be a strength. Granted, at the time he and my grandmother were taking a full class load while juggling caring for their toddler (my father), but yet otherwise a fairly good student. Just not Spanish. Hmmmmm….
