Nostalgia and happenstance had me visit my former high school in Miles, Iowa to watch a girls’ high school basketball game. Much had changed since I last visited 10+ years ago: my district consolidated with the district four miles west, therefore the gymnasium was awash with orange and gray rather than green and gold. The bleachers look original. Surprisingly, the old trophy cases were still there with both music and athletic trophies. Ah, the memories!
In the hallway which runs the length of the gym is the obligatory concession stands, opposite which is where a security camera is mounted. Except it’s no better than those faux televisions for staging in furniture stores, the hanging cable advertising that in fact nothing is being watched. Very unlikely anyone recognizes me, no camera to help solve any grand theft candy.
Was it too difficult to run the cable through the ceiling tile to at least present the allusion of a working security system? Jeez ….
And for those wondering, a live in-game action shot!
