Just before sunset, I left my hotel and walked towards Piazza Unità d’Italia in the center of Trieste, Italy, a surprising number of tourists milling around even at this late hour. My curiosity satisfied, I walked to the Adriatic seaside with its cruise terminals, old piers, and walking paths.
Sunday had been fairly warm in Trieste, and seaside were couples and families out for an evening stroll, perhaps delaying as long as possible their return to their un-air-conditioned homes and apartments: families; children running around playing games; friends gathered for food, drinks, and laughs; individuals out for a stroll; couples enjoying each other’s company. Much more a Triestini vibe, those who live in Trieste, than that at the Piazza.
It’s just after sunset and I saw this couple sitting, feet and legs on the edge, the clouds with that lovely post-sunset glow. Obviously I have no idea who these people are – co-workers? siblings? on a first date? – but it doesn’t matter, their view is fantastic.
