Who gets the royalties from sales of Marvin Gaye’s music?
Marvin was killed by his father days before his 45th birthday. By all accounts, Marvin Gay, Sr. was a complete and utter asshole. He died fourteen years after killing his son.
It would have been extremely sad if the father financially benefited by killing his son. Marvin Gaye was almost $2m in debt at the time of his killing, which royalties paid off. Fortunately, it does not appear that Marvin’s father received anything, as his children are the primary beneficiaries of his estate.
I am relieved.
