Tolerance …. to a point

A oft-seen bumper sticker – at least in Minnesota – advocates tolerance: political, religion, sexual, whatever. Totally get it, totally agree with it. It’s what the The Youngbloods were singing in “Let’s Get Together“:

Come on people now
Smile on your brother
Everybody get together
Try to love one another right now

What I refuse to tolerate is the abysmal driving of Minnesotans. It’s a worsening and daily occurrence: slow driving while looking at phones; drifting into the adjacent lane; entering the interstate without attempting to accelerate to speed; changing lanes without any signaling intent or checking; dashing across lanes to get to an off ramp; those awaiting an engraved invitation to turn. Normal expectations are thrown out the window as you constantly have to assume the worse.

Therefore, this car adorned with many liberal bumper stickers, including Tolerance, lost all credibility when she 1) sat for 30 seconds at a green light and 2) completely stopped to make an unobstructed right-hand turn.

Unfortunately, in Minnesota this is the new normal. It’s gotten to the point that even my wife occasionally drops obscenities.
