This map is displayed about halfway through the documentary Chernobyl: Secrets, Lies and the Untold Truths. Can you spot anything interesting?

The Chernobyl nuclear disaster occurred in 1986, therefore the map shows eastern European under communism and before the Iron Curtain fell: CCCP are Russian initials for USSR (Soviet Union); Ukraine a soviet republic of the Soviet Union; Germany divided into two countries, East Germany (DDR) and West Germany (BDR). Good so far.

Look more closely. Surrounded in the northwest by the two German countries and and on Poland‘s southern border is one unlabeled country; adjacent is another unlabeled country on Poland’s souther and Hungary‘s norther border. What are these? It’s Czechia and Slovakia.

The problem is that the dissolution of Czechoslovakia into Czechia and Slovakia occurred in 1993, seven years after Chernobyl and four years after communism fell in the Velvet Revolution. Perhaps a minor discrepancy not relevant in the story told, but noticeable by history nerds nevertheless.
