(Almost) Free Gasoline!

We’ve noticed this on multiple drives through Grantsburg, WI: gas priced at just under 1¢/gallon! With war-induced inflation seeing prices approaching $5/gallon, this is definitely unexpected!

My wife believes it’s a technical issue, that either it’s completely broken or is incapable of displaying the higher prices. The only alternative I see is that the station isn’t selling gas: license expired, pumps not working, or gas not delivered. Of course, we did not stop to investigate.

The ubiquitous 9⁄10 appears to be hard-coded. Though its origins are sensible, the marketing psychology reason for today’s continuing usage only confirms the utter stupidity of the American populace whom feel better when purchasing gas at $3.999/gallon instead of $4/gallon.

What a country!
