Realized Gains Become Losses

Discovered this while checking out transactions on a 401(k): I lost a total of $1.29 across four mutual funds for realized gains. WTF?!?

What I don’t know is whom receives the record keeping fee, whether Fidelity or the fund or the employer.

Regardless, I find this total bullshit and it’s time to remedy, most likely by consolidating and carefully (re-)chosing the funds. However trivial $1.29 is, it adds up; there are also fees imposed as part of the contract between employer and financial firm that are excessive. Time to move on.
