Truth in Capacity

The Minnesota Twins claim that attendance at yesterday’s Athletics/Twins game was 19,701 or 51% of total capacity. Having attended said game, I will confidently state that attendance was substantially less, perhaps below 10,000 fans. These pictures show outfield sections almost completely devoid of fans; fans were spare in sections along the outfield, and the infield sections were only modestly better.

Saturday’s game stated attendance was 30,873, and it showed: sections almost completely full, concourses much more difficult to navigate, louder cheers from fans. Night and day difference.

I realize that teams quote tickets sold and not tickets scanned to avoid embarrassing themselves, avoiding the ignominy of the 413 fans attending a New York Yankees in 1966: what I would give to see actuals (scanned) instead of probables (sold). Unfortunately, I doubt any teams having the gumption to do so any time soon.
